‘Leave The Light On For Me’ ⚡️

It is my utmost pleasure to be designing a new piece of outdoor theatre for festivals made by Mind the Gap and Nickie Miles-Wildin. It uses soundscape, very few words, physical performance and evocative imagery to explore climate change, and the consequences of excluding people from these vital conversations.

Audiences will experience a multi-sensory, playful show that draws them in to engage with universal human stories about climate change, making the issues feel relevant, encouraging hope for change and acting as a call for action.

Touring to U.K. festivals in Summer 2022 ☀️

With fully integrated BSL and captioning throughout, starring a cast of incredible d/deaf, disabled and non-disabled actors 💪

It always means more to build something from the ground up…and then raise it to the ground 🤘☄️😝

Performing on bigger stages than we ever thought we would, selling to crowds who genuinely laughed and engaged with the work. A very proud moment not only as a designer but just as a part of the family 🌱

The sparse design slowly disintegrates into a destroyed travel agents office, complete with burning printer, power cuts and increasingly frantic ‘carbon footprints’ (real carbon ash from our own wood burners and fireplaces) trailed across the stage by the characters, Peter & Claire from Happy Holidays ✈️ 🏝

“THIS ISLAND’S MINE”!!! 📢

A joyous journey with the unstoppable @weareroustabout - could not have asked for a more lovely company to work with straight after the most hectic MA in Pandemic Survival EVER 🥵 Touching on such important issues but delivering it with such skill, This Island’s Mine is based on themes in Shakespeare’s classic ‘The Tempest’ ✨

Staying true to this company’s values and my own, this design was realised using at least 90% reused and repurposed materials, creating a recycled faraway island complete with driftwood tree, some classic sunset organic tie-dying and very much being able to pack down into the boot of 2 cars 😉

We don’t post much because some days we are holding on by a thread, other days we are triumphant but also social media is the last place we want to be. Shout out to my fellow designers (and all students, 4 or 2 legged) you are magical and despite everything we just keep turning up each day and putting the hours in. Curveballs left and right but we are surviving and once again will be thriving 💪🥂…

It’s hard to sum up the journey I’ve been on as a maker this last term, over I don’t know how many weeks, having I don’t know how many changed plans, from thinking nothing was possible during lockdown to teaching myself from scratch how to make a pattern and scale up from something the size of a tennis ball to the prop costume diving helmet of my dreams 🤩
I had NO IDEA where to start when I began this process. At all.

Pattern worked out and then scaled up in CAD, making packs, endless paint swatches and dozens of time lapse tutorials distributed to the amazing production arts students who then duplicated x5 for our heroes in 20,000 Leagues (the re-staged zoom film)!

All whilst battling against postage, distance and general life disruption by the pandemic.

We are approaching the wrap and I couldn’t be prouder of the team, it’s been a long term and we are so tired but excited to share the spoils with you all 🎬

The Social Media Straight Jacket. The last in the series, the most ironic as I share these drawings on all my social platforms.
Social media has been how we stayed connected throughout this pandemic, it is the reason we know what is going on outside our door, and also the cause of so much false information and conflict. We are slaves to the notification, the little pops and pings our phones make as someone approves us; it’s lovely but it’s also deadly.
A patchwork straight-suit made from patches of icons, the social media giants controlling what we see and feel and how we move. Doesn’t know whether she’s coming or going, time to show off the latest boohoo shoe haul or chill out and promote ‘self-care’. The endless bright white reflection of the ring light. No likes, no love ❌

A personal crazy character/costume project in creative isolation.

I wanted to satirise the collective experience we are all living. I needed to remind myself that it’s ok to have a slow, steady stream of anxiety attacks randomly these days because none of what is happening is normal. It’s OK not to be OK. It’s not fun to have to hide that all the time. Taken me ages to persuade myself to share, but here’s my way of glittering a turd of a situation 💩✨

Party up top and absolutely no business down below. The empty void of the hypnotised goggle eyes and the struggle of trying to find a different item of clothing to wear from the waist up each day. Elton John inspired frills, trapped forever in the ominous green box glow...at least the underwear is cute [clean]? Meetings, shows, classes, rehearsals, uni, birthdays, Xmas, quizzes, weddings, funerals: ZOOM 👁
