Biography
Maria completed an MA in Performance Design at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School (2021), during which time she was awarded the John Elvery prize to recognise Excellence in Stage Design in her work towards creative collaboration, inclusion and sustainability.
Maria was shortlisted for the coveted emerging stage design ‘Linbury Prize’ in 2021 for her integrated design approach towards sustainability, and is now working towards becoming a Carbon Literacy trainer for the East Midlands, accredited and supported by the Society of British Theatre Designers – Sustainability Working Group.
Previously Maria studied a BA in Writing Directing & Performance at the University of York (2014), before finding her feet as a freelance scenic artist, designer and maker.
Maria has a particular interest in sustainable theatre-making, project creation and the devising process. She is part of East Midlands based collective B Team, who specialise in creating entertaining theatre about the environment that provokes conversation and change. Find out more about B Team here.
A regular guest speaker for Theatre Arts students at the University of Derby, Nottingham Trent University, London College of Fashion and for schools, youth theatres and community groups, Maria is passionate about passing on skills and knowledge to the next generation of creatives.
